Students

Our Equip ministry is aimed at students and young adults.

We are delighted to welcome students from all over the world who come to study at one of Edinburgh's colleges or universities. We hope that at Charlotte Chapel you are able to get to know other students. You can learn about Jesus or deepen your faith. You will be welcomed into a church family made up from people of all ages.

We have activities tailored for both UK and International students. All students are welcome to any of our programmes.

UK Students

We have a team of people just waiting to help you find a place in our church. There are lots of ways that you can get to know other students once the Sunday services are over. Email students@charlottechapel.org for more information.

Equip - Wednesday evenings

This is one of our main activities. We share in good food and exploration of the Bible. In Autumn 2011 we will study the book of Romans.

  • 6pm doors open, coffee available and time to chat
  • 6:30pm talk on either the passage or another issue relevant to young adults
  • 7pm dinner
  • 7:30pm Bible study and prayer
  • 8:30pm dessert
  • 9pm close

One to One

This is a great opportunity to meet regularly with a slightly older Christian, either a senior student or someone who has finished their studies. The timing and frequency of meetings is totally flexible. This suits some schedules better than a regular weekly study. What you choose to study is up to you, but would usually involve either looking at a book of the Bible or reading a Christian book together and thinking about what it means for you both today.

You usually spend time praying together. Lots of students have found this a great way to either get to know more about the basics of Christianity or to develop their understanding of the Bible. It can also be a good place to practice leading a Bible study.

Home from Home

We know that many students are studying far from their homes, and that this can make life challenging. A number of families within the church have decided to "adopt" a student or two, and they would love to welcome you into their homes.

If you like the sound of Sunday lunches, playing with kids in the park and someone looking out for you this is for you. They can also be a good port of call if life gets tough and you need someone to talk to.

Student weekend away

During the Spring term we have a weekend away together somewhere in beautiful Scotland. We cannot guarantee sunshine, but there is masses of good food and more cake than you can eat. We spend time getting to know each other better, and we also have a speaker who helps us to explore God's word in the Bible. We may also have seminars or workshops.

Tom's story

I had the chance to meet and read the Bible with 2 slightly older guys from church during first and second year at Uni.

This really helped me to be able to read God's word for myself. It taught me the importance of close friendships within the church. The guys helped me to get through some tricky times and difficult decisions during the early stages of Uni.

Not only did they help me to pray about things and to seek answers from the Bible, they had also gone through Uni as Christians only a few years before. There is no better way to read the Bible than with someone who you get on with and who understands the trials and tribulations you face.
