Building Blocks

Building Blocks is an 8 week course on the basics of the Christian faith.

Who is this for?

If you have recently become a Christian and would like to explore your new faith further this course is for you. It is also helpful if you have been a Christian for some time but would like to refresh the fundamentals of Christianity.

What does it cover?

We look at questions such as:

  • What does it mean to be saved?
  • What does it mean to live God's way?
  • How does God speak to me?
  • How do I speak to God?
  • What does it mean to be part of God's family?
  • How should I relate to those outside the church?
  • Where does my hope lie as a Christian?

What does the course involve?

We meet one evening a week for 8 weeks. We start with tea and coffee and a brief discussion of the evening's topic. We then hear briefly from a speaker before breaking into groups to discuss what we have heard. Each week we focus on one or a few key Bible passages. We seek to understand them and apply them to ourselves.

Each group has a leader, who is mainly there to facilitate discussion. They do not have all the answers, but will help you to work things out for yourself.

The final session includes a chance to ask any questions to our panel of "experts".

Callum's story

Growing up at Charlotte Chapel and in a Christian home meant that I had heard the gospel message from a very young age. What I wanted from the Building Blocks course was assurance that I had fully and correctly understood the theology of that message before I was baptised.

I found it wonderfully helpful. The gospel message was presented plainly in consecutive portions and there was room for discussion that allowed for any misunderstandings or problems to be easily explained. The booklet structure was perhaps a little simplistic at times but I valued the space to be able to take notes on whatever the speaker was explaining.

I found the relaxed group structure beneficial, with both young and more mature Christians being able to share their particular strengths, knowledge and anecdotes with each other.
